This training provides the technical skills needed to equip IT professionals with a solid understanding of deploying, managing, and integrating Proxmox VE nodes into a cluster, in order to benefit from high availability and optimize resources for virtual machines and containers. This course is also available in the full Proxmox VE Training Bundle.
Target Audience
This training is intended for IT professionals, systems engineers, server administrators, and Proxmox partners who need to master the deployment and management of Proxmox VE clusters.
Training Content
The training combines theory and hands-on exercises to give participants a thorough understanding, complemented by practical experience. Several modules and hands-on labs will cover the following aspects:
- Architecture and components of a Proxmox VE cluster: prerequisites and best practices.
- Exploring the Proxmox cluster file system (pmxcfs) and Corosync.
- Cluster networking and redundancy: VLAN, SDN (Software-Defined Networking).
- Shared storage management: available options.
- Deploying Ceph: hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI), virtual disk storage with Ceph RBD, shared file storage with CephFS, maintenance tasks, and best practices.
- Migrating guests between nodes and their limitations.
- Using ZFS for asynchronous replication of virtual disks within a cluster.
- High availability (HA) for VMs and containers.
- Failure scenarios with hands-on exercises on high availability and Ceph.
- Considerations for a minimal 2-node setup with external arbitration (QDevice).
- Automating tasks via Proxmox's REST API or CLI tools.
- Troubleshooting common issues.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this training, participants will be able to confidently set up a Proxmox VE cluster in accordance with best practices. They will have an in-depth understanding of how a Proxmox VE cluster works and how careful planning minimizes service interruptions. They will clearly understand the differences between virtual machines and LXC containers, particularly in the context of migration (live or offline).
Regarding shared storage within a cluster, participants will explore the various built-in solutions along with their respective advantages and disadvantages. They will learn to configure Proxmox VE with Ceph as a hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) according to best practices, and will clearly understand how the Ceph components interact with each other.
In addition, they will master how high availability (HA) works for guests and its various configuration options. They will also learn to leverage SDN features in a clustered environment to centrally manage VLANs and other network elements.
Overall Course Objective
To provide IT professionals with a solid understanding of deploying, managing, and optimizing virtual environments using Proxmox VE in a clustered deployment context.
Prerequisites
This training is intended for participants who have already completed the "Proxmox VE Deployment and Administration" training. It covers advanced topics not included in that initial training. This course is also conducted in French.
Duration
The training lasts 14 hours, spread over 2 days. (From 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, French time)
